My son went abroad and left his AirTag at home and I want to use it. The instructions say that he should delete the airbag from his FindMy settings and that I can then reset it by removing the battery for a while and replacing it. He deleted it from his profile and I followed the steps and heard the beep I'm supposed to hear when putting the battery back but my phone won't recognise the AirTag. I have several other AirTags that work perfectly, it's only this one that is a problem.

Has anyone else had the same problem?

I solved the problem and putting the solution here for others: You first have to remove the AirTag from your FindMy profile which is easy enough. If the AirTag is in a different location you have to reset it but the trick is that you have to remove the battery and put it back in an wait for the chirp no less than FIVE TIMES. This was not made clear in the original Apple instructions. The fifth time, the chirp made by the AirTag is slightly different which is how you know it has worked.

Umm...

"repeat the process four more times"

The "rub" with unpairing an air tag is that it doesn't work properly if the device owning it and the airtag aren't in bluetooth range of each other - hence having to do the "hack" to have the airtag forget its owner.
