Changing phone network, any special backup needed?

Hi guys,

My contract runs out this month, and I will be changing network. I've already got a pay as you go sim card from another network, which I will transfer my current number to. Do I need to take any precautions before switching sims? Any specific backup needed, or can I just switch sims and backup to my computer as needed?
