Changing the location of drive icons on desktop

They default to the top right of the screen. As more icons get added, they fill in down the column underneath. (Then they start piling up at the bottom in a stack, but that's a separate issue.)

My question is, how can i get them to move somewhere else? For some reason, even if I try to move them to another place, after I restart they show up there again. I really don't like them there because I have the dock on the right side of the screen.

between the finder prefs and view options (command+J) you should be able to figure something, you dont have to have the dives appear at all if you dont want to, which you can set in the finder prefs

Wow, you must have a lot of drives! I don't understand why Finder doesn't seem to remember where drive icons are placed. One thing I would have liked to see is the option to have various icon sizes in the same folder.
