Hello, I have been using my new rMBP 15" 2014 for about two weeks. If I change the user name (e.g. from peter to Peter), will I mess up with the system and the files? Similarly, if I change the computer name (just just capitalise the first letter), will I mess up the file system? Thanks.

Thanks but I think you misunderstood me. I was asking if changing the name of the user account and the computer would mess up with the file system of Mac OS. Some some files have already been created, I wonder if these files are somehow associated with the current name of my userid and computer name. If I change these names, maybe the file system will be confused?

Usernames (the 'short name') on Unix systems have (by and large) been lower case since the beginning of time. You might consider just leaving it the way it is. Changing the computer name (System Preferences/Sharing/Computer Name should not harm anything.
