When Channels releases its DVR component, this will be a killer solution.

SiliconDust is nearly a year late on their DVR capability for the HDHomeRun (they currently sell a pre-release version for $60/year). And the Channels developers decided to split off and build it from scratch. But they have yet to announce availability.

So to get similar functionality, including iOS, AppleTV, and other device access, Tablo is the currently available option. I've had Tablo for about 2 years now and would rate it a solid "OK". Nothing great, but does the job, albeit pretty slowly.

Once Channels DVR hits, I think I will dump the Tablo.

I feel a tad bit slighted that they are charting $15 for this, even for those who paid $25 for the aTV app version.

They could have made it a universal app, so all of those who paid full price for the aTV app get it on the iPhone as well. They could have finagled some sort of upgrade-pricing scheme through an in-app purchase.

I'm all for paying for good software, but this are essentially the same app, and released very close in time to each other.

Also, comparing to their competitor, the eyeTV app does the same thing on iOS for only $5. https://www.geniatech.eu/eyetv/product/eyetv-app/

I agree. And when the Channels DVR app is released, you will probably have to pay again for both the aTV and IOS DVR apps.
