I was wondering, if there is a similar application as charachter map in mac leopard. I want to use some special characters like a 'heart' symbol from the 'wingding' font in Photoshop CS3.

If I am using character pallet, I am not able to copy paste the charachter from that into the application. help!

The Character Palette in Mac OS X works much like the Character Map in Windows. You should be able to use it to insert a character into any application that will accept text input (including Photoshop when using the text tool).

To show and hide the character Map, open System Preferences -> International -> Input Menu. Check the "Character Palette" option in the list and then check "Show input menu in menu bar." On the Input Menu that appears in the Menu Bar, Choose "Show Character Palette."

The Character Palette does not copy and paste characters, but the palette does float on top of other windows. Double-clicking any character should insert it at the insertion point in whatever application is active on your computer.

Once you find the character you want, make certain your document window is active (on top of all others except the Character Palette) and then double-click the character to insert it.
