Character encoding in BBEdit

Can someone tell me how to auto-encode special characters (like ü, &, á etc..) in BBEdit?

Maybe you could just set the doc type to utf-8?

When you have a new BBEdit document open, click on that little page icon button at the top of the document window (fifth from left), then choose "Encoding," then choose one of the Unicode settings.

UTF-8 is the best way to go, but I still code my characters in.
