Ok so I have a series 5, how many of you charge overnight every night? I’m sure this can’t be good for the battery long term, as it will be charging at near 100% a lot.
Why haven’t Apple implemented the optimised charging for watch OS?? Seems the perfect application for it, as I presume lots of people charge overnight, more than iPhones anyway

I charge mine every night. Had every generation of watch and never did any of them any harm. The battery life on my one year old S4 is amazing. I always end up with 70% after 13 hours of very light use.
At 80% the battery switches to a trickle charge and I think that once the batteries reach 100%, the software switches off the charging and just trickle charges to keep it at 100% when needed.

Yes, the trickle charge happens with all iOS devices, however Apple still did the optimised charging in ios13 and I just wondered why not in the watch

I think the watch manages charge smartly to minimise damage to the battery - I have always charged my watch overnight. My S0 started to suffer after 3-4 years, though I think that was as much the OS updates making it work too hard. My S3’s battery was as good after 2 yrs as it was on day 1, if not better.

The link below includes the language quoted below. Apple assumes an overnight charge. And in fact I think the battery scale should be better calibrated to give a slower but linear discharge rate. Many of us see 100% battery level even a couple hours off charger. I think then as calibrated the watch really achieves 110% or some other level. I would rather see a steady decline rate off 100%.

"Apple Watch is so capable you’ll want to wear it all day long. So we made sure we gave it a battery that lasts all day, too. Our goal for battery life is 18 hours after an overnight charge,..."

Charging solely at night every night since the first model came out. Has yet to present a problem.
My S0 was problem-free until it was replaced with an S3.
S3 was problem-free for just shy of two years until it too was replaced.

I charged my S0 overnight every night for 4.5 years before I replaced it with an S5. No problems. My wife took the S0 and used it daily same way.
