Hello,

I was just wondering if I would be charged immediately after ordering? I get paid in the early hours of Friday morning, but don't want to order then as the shipping dates have probably slipped.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

It was when I pre-ordered the iPhone 5. So probably the same.

No, I understand that you aren't charged until it is shipped. They will ping your bank to ensure that the funds are there, but won't actually take them. Guess we will find out soon!

If they'd like to ping it just a few hours after that would be perfect haha. ;)

Ha, indeed. I'd imagine that they'd ping it immediately though, like if you were to go stay at a hotel and leave a credit card deposit. Essentially the funds would be "held" and unavailable for use during that time and they will release it if you cancel or go through with it at the time of shipping.

Worth a shot all the same though!

If you live near an Apple Store, you can do a reservation instead (assuming they have sufficient stock) in which case you do not pay until you go to the store to get your item.

The way it works with most banks is when you order there is a temporary hold out on the funds. Some banks release quicker than others but it takes up to four working days. Then the money is taken when the item is dispatched. You must have the funds available when you place the order.

FYI If you have the apple credit card

It will hold on the 10th and then when shipped it posts, however the date for differed interest will be the 10th not the ship date, i spoke to CS and confirmed this.

also its 6 months if you spend > $400 and 12 months if its < $400

This is correct

Last year with the iPhone 6 I placed my order on Sept 12th, the funds were frozen just to make sure I had the money available but it did not get released until Sept 17th, on Sept 18th I got my shipping notification from Apple (though on the 17th UPS already had a tracking number) and I received my iPhone on Sept 19th.

i've always used discover to order and i get a "ping" to make sure there are funds available, at the time of preorder but then it drops off.... and then when the item ships, i get the full on charge.

(the ping is always immediate, as i can log onto discover and see the pending charge moments after placing the preorder.)

since the discover 5% cash back isn't valid on the watch.... i'm considering using the apple card to keep it active so they don't close the account on me. i'll decide before tomorrow night which card it's going to be!
