So I just bought a used iPad Pro 12.9 first gen after returning my 3rd gen because it felt flimsy and had a very yellow screen (Without true tone on).

I'm charging it with the 18W I got with my 11 Pro Max but if I use the iPad, it goes backwards! So it's not enough wattage I suppose?

Should I get a 30W or would higher be better? This will be used with both the iPad Pro 12.9 first gen and the Pro Max. Thanks!

Weird. 12W and 29W work fine so I would imagine so does 18W. It sounds like it might be a battery issue. What does battery health say (in Settings)?

It might be an issue with the newer circuitry in the 18W not playing well with the first gen iPad Pro.

The 30W is doing fine now. Apple said it might have been due to the device sitting for a long time. They said I needed to charge to 100%, then let it die to do a full calibration.

Not sure exactly why but that was all the advice they had aside from "Go to the Apple store".

It's at 100% now. So I'll test it out and see how long it'll last, I'm curious anyways. Yeah, the 18W did not like that iPad one bit.

What do you think of it now years on? Thinking of getting one its 128gb 4G and brand new with brand new apple keyboard for $575AUD, its a bargain. I also have a 11" pro but want a bigger desktop.

I freaking love it. It runs as good as my 7 Plus did (It ran great). It's got the battery life of my 11 Pro Max.

Saving myself all that extra money by sending back the third gen, I have no regrets at all.

This was money well spent.

Mine didn't come with the keyboard but it is WiFi and cellular. It's still a solid device.

Thanks, yeah a 3rd gen 12.9 here with keyboard would be $2050 and only 64gb.

Hijacking this thread as I didn’t want it start new one as my issue is also charging relayed. Have the 2018 iPad Pro 11. Recently it’s began to not charge. Or it charges randomly. Or if I remove the USB C cable and turn it round 180 degrees then re insert it starts to charge. Very random behaviour. Been ignoring it but it getting To the stage it may run out of charge and won’t come back on. So it hasn’t been dropped or subjected to water. Always kept in a case and treated better than one of my children. Anyone else suffer the same?

I assume you've tried different chargers? It might be the port.

These new devices take such a higher charge that I’m considering abandoning my very old Anker multi-USB chargers because they charge the iPad Pro a lot slower than the included USB C brick.

I’m using my iPad so much that when I do want to charge it, I’m usually in a hurry to do so.

Wonder if they’ll ever bring Optimized Charging to an iPad so I can just plug it in overnight? :p

I’ve got a 6ft Anker USB C cable sitting next to me. Now to find someone to donate the 6 port charger to. :p
