Basic charger question here - I have a 2018 MacBook Pro and occasionally plug it into an Apple 30 Watt charger - it does charge the laptop - just slower - I also have a Anker 45 Watt PD USB C charger that works too, will using these chargers do any hard to the computer other than just charge it slower? Thanks in advance for the advice.

It will just charge slower, no detriment effects. Be careful however if you need to do more demanding work as these charges won’t be able to keep up with the average power draw.

Thanks so much I appreciate your help. I was reading the New ANKER PD1 30Watt charger would charge a MacBook Pro!

Lost of stuff going on in the charge market.

Generally speaking, any USB-C charger will be able to charge a 2016 or later MacBook Pro. This is one of the beauties of USB-C.

However, depending on the size of the machine (13 or 15) and the wattage of said charger, you may have mixed results in charging, especially if you do anything taxing on the computer while charging. If it’s a 13”, I’d say definitely try to at least use a 45 watt charger, and if it’s a 15”, try to use a 60 watt or greater charger. A 30 watt charger will easily be overwhelmed if you are charging and working the computer hard at the same time.

Having said that, as @leman said, no damage will be incurred from using your current Anker charger other than slower charge times. Just make sure you always use quality brand chargers such as Anker for you MBP, they tend to have more surge protections than cheaper models.

Thanks so much Painter2002
