Charging Adapter Melted...Out of Luck?

So my magsafe power adapter melted overnight for some reason. I called apple customer support and apparently it's not cover under my expired warranty (figures but I thought safety issues are covered).

Am I out of luck? $79 Canadian to replace it...😡

If you can, take it to the store and explain. Looks like manuf flaw. be nice and you might get lucky.
