Charging Anomaly?

So, my new MBA is down to 32% on the battery and I plugged in the adapter. The battery indicator told me I was using the adapter, not the battey, but the battery was not charging. Is this usual with the new MBA? My 2013 MBA would chage if plugged in while I was using it. Weird.

This is not a normal/typical situation. Was this the original Apple AC adapter or a 3rd party unit? If the charger can't keep up with the machine (like trying to charge it and use it simultaneously with a 15W 3rd party charger), it will indicate "Not Charging".
