Yeah man, it's USB. You can use any laptop/USB hub/USB adapter to charge your iPhone/iPad, don't worry. If for any reason the adapter is drastically broken, it'll just not charge or say the accessory is not supported, so even in the worst case scenario it won't damage your devices.
 
I'd recommend finding a wall outlet based usb charger to charge your iPad Air 2. Otherwise it'll take you absolutely forever to charge it through a car charger. There are several options that can be found that'll charge an Air 2 at full speed without spending the $30 on a charger, but the won't necessarily be as quick. I've just found a two pack online that will charge at roughly the same speed, and has a decent warranty for $10.

The iPhone would probably charge pretty well through your car charger, although that may see a speed hit as well.
