Considering they both support fast charging, I would say yes.

That has exactly zero to do with their charging speed right out of the gate.

The 2018 models if I remember correctly even come with a stronger 18w USB-C charger, see https://www.apple.com/ipad-pro/specs/ compared to the standard 12W charger they had in the past.

OP: we need to wait for somebody who actually had both devices for a real world feedback.
