My iPhone 12 PM seems to stop charging at 80% in iOS 16 PB 3. Is this a feature or a bug? Never see that before in any earlier versions, not on my iPhone at least.

My iPad Pro was on developer beta that version last week and it had that issue. The new update this week fixed it. You have to wait for a week i guess…

Sounds like optimized charging to me, which has been around for awhile. You don't see a message stating when it'll finish charging?

The is no messages. The "Optimized battery charging" have always been enabled. I charging the iPhone last night about 2 hour and then saw that the indicator says 80%, never seeing this before. Maybe this is normal now?

Wait, I charge the iPhone this morning now and it is at 93%, the issue seems to be fixed, by itself... :)

Or wait, maybe not 😳 after I restarted the iPhone it says now 100%. Must be a bug?

It’s optimized based on your charging behavior. So, it’ll go to 80% when you go to bed then I believe soon before you normally begin using it in the AM, it’ll start charging up to 100%. Nothing new. You can disable it under the battery Health section in the Battery system preference.

“To reduce battery aging, iPhone learns from your daily charging routine so it can wait to finish charging past 80% until you need to use it.”
