Charging the MacBook with LG 5K

Would it be okay to charge the 12" MacBook with the Thunderbolt 3 cable from the LG Ultrafine 5K display?

This delivers 85W of power. It charges the MacBook (even though the computer cannot use or power the display). But in the long-term, is it okay to just charge the MacBook this way?

It's no different than using the the charger that comes with the Macbook.

It delivers up to 85watt. It can do less if the macbook doesn't need it all.

I sometimes charge my macbook with a 3rd party USB C cable and a 10,000ma powerbank 😀 You'll be fine.
