I saw this article and decided to try it by asking ChatGPT to help me choose a MacBook pro. It didn't know that they're on M4 now, so it kept finding overpriced M3 options. Not a very useful shopping assistant if it only knows what came out a year ago.

Free from advertising (for now). I recently went through the process with ChatGPT of picking out a new pair of running shoes. Turns out, they really hurt my feet. I’m not convinced that this “AI” will actually ever be better than talking to a person.

Google has to be sweating bullets here. I’ve already switched to ChatGPT and Perplexity for the majority of my search inquiries.

Useful, however, if they can turn that into getting money out of Apple to push old stock on people.

That's where this is going.

Companies just dumping whatever they want on us in ways, and at prices, we can't check or notice or easily compare.

End user wouldn’t pay for it just like they don’t pay for Google. They would be willing to get ads though

On the free tier, yes.

If you pay for ChatGPT, this is an added bonus on top of all the features which pulls people away from competition like Perplexity.

Excellent... they're set to make it more cluttered, resembling what they did to Instagram with its overload of photos, reels, videos, shopping, and more.

I favor Grok over ChatGPT for its accurate results without bias or censorship.

Ah I don't recall - I don't have an account with them. Something along the lines of "Help me shop for a new macbook pro"

I get that the truth is that people are using ChatGPT as a kind of search engine, but it really is absurd. It's like killing a fruit fly with a pile driver. And shopping?... unbelievable, in a way... The waste of energy is astounding...

You need to turn on the Search feature. ChatGPT recommends the 14-inch M4 MacBook Pro for me, as the best overall as of April 2025.

I think Apple/Siri has reached a point now where it will be impossible to catch up. They're like 15 years behind.

Siri can (sometimes) set a timer correctly? What else do you need?

You need to turn on the Search feature.

Not necessarily - you can also ask/tell it to search without using the button and it'll do it. I suppose the issue is if it'll decide it needs to search or if it "thinks" it "knows" in that specific instance.
