Cheap 1080p monitor that can be controlled by mini keyboard?

What do mean when you say:

I assumed they meant the brightness keys? I have a 10+ year old 23" Apple Cinema display (1920 x 1200) that can do this. I'm using an HDMI to DVI adapter to connect it to my 2012 quad Mini.

But the brightness keys only work if you also plug in the USB cable, which I don't do anymore.

LG monitors that have been released in the last 2-3 years, often feature a software called „On Screen control“. Not sure about your price limit, but check out your preferred dealer for a monitor to your liking and check, whether it supports OnScreen control.

Is that what you mean by "controlled by the keyboard"? Just the brightness?
Don't most monitors (not just LG) have on-screen menus, accessed using buttons on the screen, that allow you to adjust various internal screen settings, including brightness? That's not controlled by pressing keys on the keyboard, so not quite as convenient.
But then, how often do you need to adjust brightness, anyway?

The LG software allows to control monitor settings with a mouse from the computer. Not sure about actual keyboard support, though.

If the LG settings are in a dialog or menu, you can probably write an AppleScript action that you can assign to a key?
