Check out the prices from these guys.. http://www.apple-computers.us/systems.html

Are they for real?

I replied to this guy, he sent me his bank account and routing details to send the money to, so i went on over to all those usa platinum credit sites where you give them your bank account and routing number and signed him up to a whole heap of platinum credit schemes, the ones where they deduct 149.95 from your checking accounting... Not exactly the right thing to do but noe the less it is quite funny! :)

It was this address, the return shipment address that I was referring to:

Smart Computers
Attn: Returns Department
(Place your RMA number on this line)
20th , Melnickaya str. ,
2nd floor , Mettle Building
Odessa, UA 65050

I guess it could be Ukraine or something. Just thought it was strange.

Interesting... I just checked the website and the address changed. It now says:
:: Return shipping address:
Attn: Returns Department
(Place your RMA number on this line)
Smart Computers Company
326 South Saginaw Street
Flint, MI 48502

The zip code really is for Flint MI, unlike the first zip which is actually for Latham, Missouri, not Odessa, UA.

wouldn't you need a social security number to sign him up?

I was quite amused by that huge long explaination about how you're supposed to pay them.

Unfortunately the whole "US Power Supply" thing doesn't explain the $250 60 gig iPod photo. Nor does it make sense that their web site would quite plainly display Mastercard/Visa logos but they don't take any form of payment than Western Union. Also the mostly naked iMac anime chick on the "about" page really helps to clinch in my mind that this is an honest, classy company. ;)

I mean, come on. If you're going to make a scam web site at least tie up the lose ends and don't make it so painfully obvious how poorly the scam is being executed. Although even after all that they'll no doubt hook a few people for several thousand dollars.

Are you serious? So it cost him $150 for EACH one you did? That sounds very insecure that just by putting those numbers on a webpage you can deduct that from someone's account. Are you sure about that?

EDIT:

I'm going to call the number tomorrow and ask why they aren't listed as an Authorized Dealer on Apple. That should be funny. That's if that toll free number is even real.

So if I read that correctly, we, in the west donated money to charites over there because they were in need. The charities used the money to buy computers that they couldn't use because the computers had North American power supplies, so now they want to sell the computers back to us to re-coop some of the money.

Makes sense to me.

I'm making out a big fat check now for the next *charity* that knocks on my door so they can buy more stuff they can't use and then sell back to me at a discount.

I hope you're just joking there, and don't believe everything this scammer says as being the truth. He had to make up a lie to explain the cheap prices, and came up with a really bogus one.

Unfortunately, Macs have autoswitching power supplies. Save for a few models. This is a Class AA-1 scam!

Do not buy from these people.

Well I think I can safely reply that YES, winwintoo was laying out how ridiculous the lie really was.

Whew, ok, that's what I thought, but I wasn't quite sure. I've heard some people I know say these kinds of things while being dead serious, hence the confusion ;)

Almost tempting to send Visa a request as to why one of their mercharts sporting their logo is requesting payment via Western Union.

Interestingly the website has an "Authorized Dealer" click on the top left. This takes you to the proper Apple Website where you can find authorizered resellers. Unsurprisingly "Smart Computers" in Flint, MI isn't listed !

I live near and go to school in Flint, MI and I don't remember ever seeing this store so that should settle it for you.

Edit: I looked at it on mapquest and I'm familiar with the location and it looks like its near my school and this Hotel owned by a cult. I am almost certain there is nothing like that there.

They're all the same too.....but they always sucker someone. Maybe I'll take a gander at it soon, just to make smoe money on the side, so I can really by myself a new PowerMac.
