That's nice but doesn't help when watching on my AppleTV. As you pointed out, it's for computer use. A lot of people watch YouTube on their TV.
Well try using the Brave app, then airplay or screen mirror the iPhone/iPad to your Apple TV. That should work.

What a strange decision. So basically just "music-video free" YouTube? I guess if there are enough people who don't watch music videos, this might be successful.

I have YouTube Premium because I watch a lot of travel and book-related content (among other things). I realized I was watching YouTube more than I was Hulu or Netflix, and yet I was paying for those, so why not get YouTube? It also comes with YouTube Music streaming, which is convenient to have.

Loophole: VPN to countries like Albania and you won't be seeing any Ads since Google is not selling ad slots on YouTube there
I still have my TV setup that way. Sadly even with a solid gigabit connection and ISP with great peering (BT), I get a bit of pausing on Albania. Other countries seem ok.

100% I'm working at my computer all day - so there I'll mostly only watch technical clips/tutorials that help what I'm working on.

I may watch on phone/tablet when exercising or travelling.

Evenings/relaxing time I absolutely want to sit on the sofa and watch on the big screen , so then it's either AppleTV or LG WebOS ....

If it excludes YouTubeMusic and is priced correctly, it will do well

I used to be one of those who wanted "just the YouTube part" of YT Premium

Ironically, I've become a YTMusic user and really enjoy it for casual discovery during workouts now

Well, my VPN apparently doesn't do Albania. And all the ways of blocking in a web browser does nothing for using the app. Not to mention a lot of YT stuff I watch on my TV... where all these ways of blocking don't exist. And 100% I am getting beyond tired over their ad approach, way to many times they get shoved in just as something important is happening. There is nobody there to actually put them in spots that don't destroy the content. And sheesh, 3 ad breaks for a 3 m in video? I have been contemplating the 14 buck plan, now Im curious how this less premium plan will work.

The decision was by YouTube regarding the engagement on their platform as a whole, and YouTube doesn’t make the videos.
no. it was because red hatters and wart covered boys living in mummies basement would essentially review bomb but thumbs down bomb "woke" content or things that they didn't like. That thumbs down was all they had since they never getting laid.

Hmm, not an easy choice.

Youtube premium allowed me to finally drop my apple music subscription. Although I am not a fan of the YouTube music app, I find I tend to consume podcasts more than stream music, and the YouTube music service sufficed for the few times I fired up a quick playlist.

At the same time, my mom watches YouTube (a lot) via the Apple TV in my living room, while my dad does likewise on my iMac in the study room, so it is easier to just maintain one family plan, and save myself the hassle of being the family tech support.

I also find that I use background play a fair bit (often, the YouTube video is running in PIP mode on my phone or iPad. Just this alone might be enough to keep me on the pricier plan.

One concern is that the existence of a cheaper "premium" plan might lead to Youtube increasing the price of their main premium plan further down the road, and this is on the back of a recent price hike. 😕

As well...

A cheaper plan will be very nice considering the prices of all subscription services are steadily increasing. But maybe the Lite version of Youtube Premium might still be expensive and priced at $9.99

I pay for YouTube premium to get background playback and no ads on my iPad (they are increasingly getting around this by putting them in the videos). Will be interesting to see the cost of this.
