Looking for the newest model, either in the Ultimate 1.8/4/256 configuration or the standard 1.7/4/256.

--Apple EDU store: Ultimate is $1755 to my door, standard is $1659.

--Amazon: doesn't seem to stock the Ultimate which is a bummer, they have just one reseller asking something asinine like $2100. Standard 1.7/4/256 is $1599 to my door.

--Macmall: Ultimate is is $1767 to my door. Standard is $1660.

Anywhere cheaper, or even better, any coupon codes?

324 views and nothing cheaper? There's always ebay, but there's no telling when the warranty actually started. That and I don't like making major purchases from ebay.

Do try eBay and classifieds. I've been surprised several times with people selling brand new MacBooks (Pro and Air), sealed box with proof of purchase, but you have to jump at the chance to buy it. Ask for the serial number and check that it hasn't yet been registered on Apple's support website.

Just yesterday I bought a brand new 13" MBP late 2011 (base model) for 850€ instead of 1149€. Earlier this year I bought a 13" MBP early 2011 (higher end model) for 1000€ instead of 1449€. Both sold by privates for different reasons, and immediately after the ads had been posted. Excellent deals .

There are also open boxes sold by third party e-tailers. Last week I bought an open box 11" MBA mid-2011 (base model) for 797€ instead of 949€. The MacBook itself was brand new, but the box was somewhat damaged. Not yet registered for warranty either. Yet another bargain :D.

I am considering B&H in New York (brick store)..
    A stock 2011 13.3 with 256 SSD is $1498 (no tax or S/H)... :)
    Applecare is $190.53....

At the local Apple Store the same MA is $1599 plus $143 tax (9%)..$1742

Sooooo, buying at B&H would save me $244 bucks... :)

What are the drawbacks buying from B&H over the Apple Store??

Note... B&H also gives you some free software...

Try taking those quotes with you into an Apple store. They will most likely match it for you to get the sale. I guarantee they will match it if you hint you are purchasing Apple Care...

The only drawback would be changing your mind & getting a refund up to 14 days...
I assume the geeks at the Apple Store would do any warranty repair work when they know I didn't purchase the MA at their store...
