looking to get one for my mom, she doesnt need the newest one since well she will NEVER utilize the A7 chip or any of the other stuff.

I just wanna buy it for her so she can browse the web, download some apps she likes and what not.

would like a brand new one at the lowest price

Not brand new nor the cheapest but Apple Store refurbs give you new battery, new shell and the same 1-year warranty as new. They're also eligible for AppleCare+. They're practically as good as new and you get a hefty discount to boot.

(Edit: ninja'd by rui no onna... I gotta type faster. :D)

Watch for carriers unloading units if you want cellular.

Otherwise, best deal may be an Apple refurb a few days after the new units are released (remember the new mini won't be Friday). Watch prices on http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad

whoa, the mini on the refurb site is $250.

does that mean its gonna go down once the new one releases?

It already went down from $280 to $250 after the Apple Keynote so likely no more decrease for the immediate future.
