Im looknig for the cheapest way to obtain an iPhone 4, I wont be using AT&T, I will be unlocking it to use on other carriers.

So my option right now Im thinking of is adding a third line to friend's account.
Which averages out to be around 751-756.

My other option is buying the no commitment iPhone 4, which happens to be around $756 as well.

My question is if I go for the no commitment iPhone 4, will the phone be activated upon purchased? Or do I have to activate it through AT&T and pay a fee + sign up a contract with AT&T?

Anyone with experience, please fill me in on the insights.

gotta buy one overseas.

The iPhone 4 won't come unlocked and current unlocking solutions may or may not be able to unlock the OS 4's associated firmwares and baseband.

You can try to snag one overseas, where carriers (in certain parts) are required to sell unlocked phones at retail price.

oh yes and YAY!! for the higher ETF

Hey, why don't you ask your friend's dad? You know...the one who said that the iPhone 4 would be delayed until January 2011. Whatever happened with that?

IM PISSED.

My 2g and 3gs were not activated. I did this at home.
did you have to pay a fee to activate? did you have to sign a contract to activate?
by activate i mean, having access to ipod/notes/safari etc functionalities.

What are you trying to do? If you are trying to get the new phone and use it in a different network, don't get your hopes up because it probably won't work.

Simples!

1. You have to become the secret lover of an Apple senior.

2. Steal one!

3. Build a time machine...

why do you say that?
the 3gs is unlocked, and the beta 4.0 os is unlocked already.

im trying to (as the title says) find a way to obtain the iphone 4 as cheap as possible, after wards unlock, and use on different carrier.

i am currently using my 3gs on a different carrier.

iPhone 4 is new hardware and history showed that Apple won't make it easy to unlock the latest iPhone.

I hear the one is coming out soon for Verizon you can always wait for that

You have answered your own question? Think about what you asked and then what you said?:D

what? ive answered my own question? why would i wait for verizon...? what makes you think i am trying to use verizon network? and for the record my other carrier i plan to use, uses GSM. are you mentally slow or just have a low iq?

i thought to unlock a phone, you can either hardware unlock or software unlock?
since beta 4.0 is unlocked, the final 4.0 version unlock should be similar and ready.

Only way I see it is to hit an Apple store at night with a face mask and gloves or buy an iPhone 4, sign up with At&t, pay the $200+tax, activation fee and termination fee. Costly? Yes, try to sell your current iPhone for $300+.
All this should come to about $620..

Obviously you're not familiar with how unlock works. Beta 4.0 is "jailbroken" but not unlocked, which is not even available for the latest 3GS hardware.

No one can even promise iPhone 4 to be unlockable let alone a date for such accomplishment.

you're pretty bad a math lol
how are you getting $620?

im getting the 32gb version

ETF - 325
iPhone - 360
3rd line fee - 10 + 15 + 10 (one month advance payment)
activation fee - 36
= around 756.

really? beta 4.0 not unlocked yet?

MuscleNerd posted not too long ago that iPhone 4 + 4.0 baseband will be unlockable shortly after release. Theoretically, Spirit should would without any changes since it uses the same processor as the iPad
