Hey,

Checking my Mac's serial number online at https://checkcoverage.apple.com returns the wrong configuration It's a 2018 15 MBP BTO 2.6/32/1TB and not what's shown here.

This seems odd and I'm slightly worried I might get a wrong Mac back if I ever have to send it in for repair.
Before going through the hoops that is Apple Support, anyone with a similar experience?

Cheers

I think if it were me I would go through the hoops. Better to do it now than have to deal with it *and* whatever else is going on if you have an issue down the road

That's a new unit, so it's possible that the database that you accessed for the service info is not completely updated.
It's not UNcommon for a new unit that was just manufactured, and shipped to the customer, may not be accurately found in the system. I don't think, bottom line, that it will affect what happens in the event that you have to send it off for repair. Even if that were possible, you might get something better in return!

But, no one else except AppleCare support can answer your question.

The link he and I used is Apples own website. Weird they wouldn't update it immediately

Yours is a BTO and not standard config. BH did the BTO.
Wonder if the OP purchased from BH.

SL, believe that's code for Silver.

NYC, appears to be code for Retina Display, as replacemmt part sites list previous model Retina replacements as NYC. No idea what it could be an acronym for.

My new 15" Space Grey is also wrong under 'check coverage'. In New Zealand, purchased online from Apple..
Reported, Apple are looking into it.

Looks like the database is just straight up wrong, I'm sure they'll correct it in time.. both my original and replacement show as 'base spec'

Thanks everyone for checking, glad to see I'm not the only one. I guess it's indeed a database glitch then, phew.

Mine's incorrect, I have a BTO model. 2.2GHz, 550x, 512GB model, not 256GB.

Looks like I need to contact support Monday.

I have a Space Gray, so either SL doesn't mean Silver, or that's incorrect on my purchase as well.

Mine is also now showing up as the same model as you have listed there, where previously it had shown the correct model. It appears the database is currently glitched.

My data is incorrect too . I noticed when I was unable to register AppleCare online and opened a support case.

Laptop MBP 2018: i7/2.6/32/1TB, data shown: MBP 15.4 SL 2.2GHZ/16G/555/256G,NYC

That's a whole lot of defect / corrupt data.

I posted earlier that mine originally showed the correct info, but in retrospect that isn’t quite correct . I never looked it up online before.

When I purchased the MBP, I also purchased Apple Care +, which was activated by Apple.

It was their Apple Care + Proof of Coverage email that showed the correct specs for my machine.
