Check IMEI to see if iPhone 5 is unlocked

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but these sites are run by unlocking companies. They are biased into telling you your phone is locked so they can sell you an unlock.

The only way to determine if your phone is unlocked is to try a different carrier's SIM in the phone. If it works, the phone is unlocked.

Even iTunes won't always show you the "Congratulations" message when the phone is unlocked. Trying a SIM is the ONLY way to be completely sure.

2. Have you seen the quality of Apples refurbs. Way way better than the typical

3. Not so sure the info about it being a refurb is correct. They have refurbs and reconditioned which both may have that tag. But they are two different items to Apple.

Ya, many websites are not accurate -- some manipulate the lock status function into getting users to pay...so unless people really have the time to waste...I would say paying $1 is the best thing to do as it gives you proper results....and in long run save 100s
 
all those websites are inaccurate. Especially for iphones previously locked and later unlocked by carrier. Every website would show incorrectly the iphone is still locked to that carrier.

The best way is to contact https://www.apple.com/contact/ and it is free.
