Ouch, that hurts. Poor MBP. 🙁

However, if I received a package looking like that, I'd have refused it and have it returned to the sender. There would have been no way that I'd have accepted it. Just imagine if FedEx or the sender tried to blame it on you and you'd be stuck with a messed up MBP.

The only thing I can think of is they threw it onto something extremely sharp sticking out..

Where did you buy it from (since you said not Apple) what is the sellers reputation?

I did not buy this from Apple. I got it used from an Ebay seller. It is possible the seller intentionally broke it before shipping but I highly doubt it from his feedbacks. Fedex would not have accepted a package with a hole in it anyway.
