Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

Just noticed eBay app sends me notifications pretty accurately of ending items etc. is this from a constant poll to server or more of a BlackBerry thing (I.e. proper push)?

How do I check status of all apps ability to access net when appearing 'closed'?

it is proper push - uses apples push notification system. If you open a new app that provides push notifications it will ask if you want to accept them. If you look in Settings/Notifications you can see which apps provide notifications and which ones are on/off and how the notification appears
