Why don't you upgrade to $30 unlimited now and get grandfathered in when you get the new iPhone. Cost you $10 extra per month + $5 for text but in the long run, you save.

That is my plan and it will actually work out great for me because I am on a Business FAN account and the $30 unlimited plan actually only costs $22.80 with my service discount. Can I just call them and ask them to change it? It won't extend my contract/make me ineligible for upgrade to new iphone? I am eventually going to call them and ask but I'm at work and just wondering if anyone knows?

Thanks

People are really flipping out for no reason ... 98% of iPhone users use below 2Gb ... that 2% is almost guaranteed to be those 'illegally' tethering ... thus basically 100% of iPhone users need no more than 2Gb of data ...

I am pleased that the monthly fee will drop. Maybe in the future, we'll use more than 2 gigs of data a month, but that is not the case now, and I prefer to spend less to get more than I need, than to spend more and not have a current use for it.

Let's not be concerned about the future.

so your data is limited, AND you have to pay more every month for tethering...

yeah. great plan.

great company.

awesome.

There is a discrepancy between the graph and what it says on the main page of my data usage for the month. The main page says my May data usage is 212 MB. The graph says my data usage for May is 283 MB. Either way I will take the $5 savings and go down to the $25 data pro plan, but the graph may be misleading.

The graph gives you your data by month, the main page gives it to you by billing period. You've used 283 in May as a whole but only 212 within your May billing period.

Everything I've seen posted on Macrumors this morning leads me to believe it's true.

Just based on random posts it seems like 80% - 90% of Macrumors posters are under 2 GB and we are certainly MUCH higher data users than the general public. If WE'RE at 80% then 98% for everyone else is very believable.

And for the ipad?

Surprised

I was mad when I first read about the caps. I was happy though to be grand fathered in with unlimited. Then I checked my usage. I've never gone above 150MB and my wife has never gone above 100MB. So that means we can save $30/ month by both dropping to the low plan.

what about those existing customers who dont have an iPhone [Sold mine], would they be able to get the $30 unlimited plan?

I can't see sweating about only a $5 savings to downgrade to 2gb of data. Heck, most of us reading this post have wasted $5 of productivity already.

Same story here. I think this will turn out to be a good thing for us, at least on the iPhone. Still ticked off about the bait-and-switch on the iPad plans though.

Delays up to FIVE business days?

What the hell? Does this information require paperwork and postage? I'm sure it will take AT&T a matter of minutes to charge a penalty if we go over.

Sorry if this has already been posted...

**New iPhone customers, listen up**

Just got off the phone with AT&T. The unlimited plan will still be offered for the iPhone after June 7th - they're just adding two new plans. What is going away is the unlimited iPad plan.

Here's a link to the press release:
http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?pid=4800&cdvn=news&newsarticleid=30854

Nowhere dos it mention replacing the current iPhone unlimited plan.

**sigh of relief**

I just got off the phone with some Customer Service person at ATT with zero satisfaction. I really think she had no idea what she was talking about. She said that tethering is only for smartphones, not my iPhones. ??? Is this true?

Can someone confirm:

If I switch to the 2GB plan on my iPhone and or my husband's, will we be able to tether our iPad (we have 3G) to it?

The only thing I find annoying is that the $15 plan is only 200MB. It is just enough to push most people to the $25 plan.

Just took a look at our usage.

I averaged 194.8MB over the last 6 months (one high (400MB+) and one low month (under 100MB).

My fiancée averaged 204.9MB over the last 6 months (with one high month and one low month).

Will probably go with the 200MB plan, but if they would have made it 250MB or 300MB it would be a much easier decision.

so in dec 09 i used 18.3 GB of data in jan 10 i used 15.3 GB in feb only used 10.6 march i used 7GB april was low i only used 4 GB and its back up to 13GB in may sooo yup staying with my unlimited plan and continue using mywi ..

What will they (AT&T) do if you've got some unknown usage?

Sounds weird, but I looked at my last month's bill and there's close to 3GB of data usage resulting from activity every night between 2am-3am. I'm pretty sure I'm not sleep-surfing, so somewhere in my phone there's something generating some pretty big data transfer activity.....

I'm trying to get AT&T to help me identify what it is, but all I've gotten from the helpful CSR so far is "don't worry; you've got an unlimited plan...."

True, but if I had a capped plan and this was happening I'd be freaking out!

Anyone else noticed this?

Looking back, I guess I should switch and save $5 since a lot of the time I am in WiFi and that's not likely to change by a factor of 20, but Skype in 3G ?

You can kiss Apple and ATT's a&^ on your own time. I have been using Apple devices since the mid 80's so I'm a "fanboy" too. The difference is I see this how it is. Steve Jobs has become a greedy man and doesn't care about the customers anymore. As for AT&T they have never been able to handle the data usage on their network, and they know it will only get worse with the 4G. So what do they do, instead of improving the phones so calls don't drop every second they decide to charge more - which is what this really does - and sheist their customers instead of improving their shoddy network. Stop being an apologist. Devil's advocates piss me off so much. There is nothing to defend herre.

This has nothing to do with Steve Jobs or Apple. It is for all AT&T customers.

Don't bother calling anyone at AT&T or Apple on the days iPhone announcements are made.

They usually find out later today or in the next day or two.

There's just no point in bothering them right now. You know more than they do from having read Macrumors this morning.

So, my employer switched our email to an Exchange server, from IMAP, in April. Guess what it did to my data usage on my EDGE iPhone?

As it stands, my iPhone connects to 7 different email accounts (3 self-hosted IMAP, 1 gmail, 1 mac.com, 1 professional IMAP and 1 professional Exchange).

I can't imagine what my data usage would look like if I were able to stream over 3G, instead of being limited by EDGE.

I started using MyWi in May, which is why the data is high. I only use it during school in a classroom where I don't have Wi-Fi. I also share my connection with 2 other Netbooks.

I'll be switching to the $15 plan and stop using MyWi. Saving $20 a month sounds like a deal to me.

Does anyone have a guess to how much data would be used to watch an MLB game over 3g using the at bat app. I currently have an HTC FUZE with no data and im wondering if i should put the unlimited plan on now so that i can be grandfathered in when i upgrade on release day.

I listen to games over 3G at work a couple times a week. My other usage could be described as average safari/maps/email/occassional iTunes download. With five days left in my billing cycle I'm at 338 MB.

So, an MLB at bat game can't be that big.

That used to happen with my Blackberry! I called ATT and the person said it was Blackberry doing some updates. ? I would be po'd if I were on a limited plan.
