First of all. I just want to say that I love the MacRumors forum and this is my very first post!

Anyway, I'll be purchasing my first MacBook Pro after October (to wait for Leopard and after me saving up a few more bucks). Very excited, and the anticipation is killing me. I've worked with Macs before but never actually owned one until I decided hands down to switch over.

But my real question is...some of the posts that I've read talk about getting Macs with a specific "Week" build version.. (i.e. i have the Week 32 build or Week 17 build). When I start the process of purchasing...how can I check when he laptop's were built?

    thanks!:)

    Hi JonnyBravo,
you can download a program called Coconut Identity from here:

    http://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutidentitycard/index.html

This program will tell you the approximate date your Apple computer was manufactured.

Also you can tell what week your MBP was built by looking at the computer's serial number. The 3rd and 4th numbers after the the w( w is the start of the serial number) tell you the week number.

Hope this is helpful and welcome to this great Mac community.

    Simon

I believe the serial number starts with W87 or something...and the two numbers after the 7 represent the build week. But I don't think that the build week is a big problem...a mbp is a mbp imo.
