Checking Product Manufacturing Date and Specs From SN

I'm looking at an auction for an apple cinema display. Its ending soon and i don't know if the seller will get back to me in time. So i want to know if i can find out the specs from the serial number. I want to know if it is the new model or before the last update.

There's some information here about working out manufacturing dates from serial numbers – it is for Macs rather than displays but I wouldn't be surprised if Apple used the same system.

you can use Apple's website (on the right side, about two-thirds of the way down) to tell you how much AppleCare is left on the product, so i imagine this would also indicate to you when it was built.
