A lot of cars already have this functionality, no? For mine, I just press down on the phone's home button and Siri comes on and works through the car's speakers and microphone. What's the difference here, the steering wheel button?

On mine I just pick up the d*** phone and do what I need to. So nice not having laws against this.

if you cant text and drive you shouldnt be driving

Agreed. The problem isn't people who text and drive-- the problem is people who text and drive and aren't very good at it.

Put Siri hands free into your lowest end cars, because you know, iPhone owners tend to be cheap. What are they thinking?

Interacting with a phone AT ALL while driving is one issue I have. But there is another even more basic issue with SIRI. I have found that while we are in the car the road noise confuses SIRI. My wife has no problem with SIRI when there is no constant background noise. But with background noise of any volume, SIRI's usefulness goes down significantly (we have both have the 4S).

Siri is not reliable at all for driving. It will make you more frustrated, probably collaborating to road rage.

Two things:
1) Give an example of Siri causing your frustration, don't just make a blanket statement.
2) You probably meant "contributing" instead of "collaborating". ;)

Was she laughing at the joke? Wow.
I know, they should really add jokes. So far I have been well disappointed by Siri's joking abilities.

I actually use Siri quite often in the car for reminders, making calls and navigation. Looking forward to a car like this (a car with Siri, but american car... uh no thanks).

Why don't you ask the person at Walmart that sells iPhone? Maybe ask the guy at RadioShack next time you're shopping.

They might have the answer you're looking for...

Honestly I think it's a liability reduction more than anything else. It's hard to pimp Siri for all it's worth and say it's great for use in the car when it pops up dialogs and confirmations on the screen. Now they can say that it's not a distraction.

The car itself does very little, it just activates Siri on the phone and connects the mic up. The BlueAnt gizmo I've had attached to the sun visor of my Mazda3 forever and a day can do almost the same thing. There I have to hold the call button for a few seconds and the phone still displays most of the results onscreen, though.

On a side note it works pretty well for activating Google Now on my Nexus 4 as well.

it's more similar to the way apple has aligned themselves and the ipod with most major car makers. i think they figure if they can dominate 80% of the mp3 player market, maybe the relationship with car makers will also help them dominate the smartphone market.

as far as the driving/directions/assist functionality, apple maps was designed for drivers much moreso than pedestrians and mass transit travelers. i take turn by turn on apple maps over google anyday but there are no train or bus schedules built in. this only goes to strengthen the relationship apple puts on drivers with their cars/devices.

one more thing...remember that silly motorola/apple smartphone collaboration. it was primitive but so is this compared to the icar!

Chevy's also putting it in the Spark, which is their micro-compact car.

I'm glad car makers are building smaller cars with nice features. You shouldn't have to drive a boat just to get in dash navigation, leather(-ish) seats or a nice ride.

We have had nothing of substance for a while now... Really wondering why we have seen virtually no products this quarter. Very odd.

what products were you expecting in this quarter? iPhone and ipad would make no sense. they just updated iMac. apple tv (they just did a minor update) would be great but who's expecting that.

there are iwatch and itv rumors but it's not fair to hold any company to the standards (linkbaiting lies) set by analysts and rumor mills.

the only thing i'm expecting (based on tim cook's comments last year) is a mac pro and at this point i've stopped holding my breath for that.

I like the ad and all but it's false advertising. "Do I have any text messages"? Siri would normally say: "Here are your text messages" which she didn't say. "Tell me a joke". Siri would say "Okay, here's a joke"
False.

If you think you can text and drive, you shouldn't be driving.

I do... all the time :D

There is only so much you can do with Siri. It's really useless (speaking on my own behalf)

if you cant text and drive you shouldnt be driving

Jeez. Hope you did not mean that.

Disagree. If you can't text and drive you should keep practicing at it until you're a pro...or you die horribly in a car accident from texting while driving.

yeah.. but I care a little bit less about that than such an idiot, moron and scum of the earth hitting me and killing me
