which one?

feel free to post comments with pros and cons.

I don't think the Malibu is a worthy competitor to the Jetta. I wanted to like it, but it's really just not. If you like the Jetta and want to look at worthy alternatives, you should probably look more to a Mazda3 at this point.... If you like the larger size of the Chevy, there are some better options out there in terms of vehicle dynamics. OTOH, if you are just looking at styling or basic creature comforts, then the Malibu might not be bad.

I'd probably say the Malibu, since you can probably find a few more deals on it than the Jetta.

The Jetta has the better interior, but the Malibu isn't a bad car these days even though the price sucks compared to the Impala which most of the time gives you a boost in size for basically the same price after rebates and dealer incentives.

Definitely the Jetta.

My wife has a Passat and we both love it. Between the car itself and the quality of service that we have received from our local VW dealer, I think we're going to be VW people for a long time. :)

I have a Jetta and I'd probably get the Malibu. It's got bigger interior and probably better gas mileage than the Jetta. I've been disappointed with the average 22 mpg with the Jetta.

I was thinking Jetta first, but almost put in another car. The Mazda 3, as mentioned before, is good.

Both new? Or used? Prices?

If both new I would guess the malibu would be cheaper. If new and money not an issue, I would say jetta, it has a warranty. But if used, I would go with the Malibu. I have heard only good things about them from people.

What about a Honda Civic or a Fit? The Mazda 3 is a very good car as well. The Ford Fiesta is nice too. The reviews I'm hearing about it are good.

The Fiesta's what I quite want this year (personally, I wouldn't consider the Civic or Fit because of their driving dynamics), but it's quite a bit smaller than a Malibu and a little smaller than a Jetta.

As an owner of a '01 Jetta, with a VR6, I would highly suggest the Jetta. The interior is the thing the wow'd me on the VWs I looked at, always seems a few classes about everything else in the price range. My only suggestion is to say away from the Triptronic automatics, but they only come in the 2.5 with auto. Every other engine get the amazing DSG if you want an automatic.

Tim100, what exactly is it that you want out of a car?

Jettas have some of the worst reliability ratings on most, of not all of the major consumer reliability reporting groups. Something to think about.

well, since your going to buy a german car, let it be w/ style.

Audi A3 or the super high performance vehicle Audi S3.

starting at a price i cannot afford right now!:D
