I saw it on friday as well, missed the first 5 or 10 minutes. I thought it was a powerful film, but the ending was too abrupt. I wanted them to go to the Human Project.

I had a discussion with my office mate about this. We had both seen it over the weekend. She had your point of view. I then pointed out that if you were to look at the movie it is a very much from a first person perspective. While yes you do see Theo, you also follow where he is looking. At then end Theo dies, so the movie ends.

Part of me wanted to see the happy Human Project world but it wouldn't be right or real.

I saw this the other night and I'd give it 2 and a half stars out of four. Its pretty good at times and tense and other times its just like some liberal propaganda. I can't imagine 20 years from now seeing anti-Bush stickers. It was more like Minority Report than the "closest thing to Blade Runner" that the trailer was claiming. For anyone in the mood for great science fiction, this is not your movie. Its more a political film than a sci fi film. The good things are some great cinematography and seamless effects. Their stab at "realism" is actually quite good. 2.5 out of 4

In a lot of ways it was a great SF film. SF is about the implications of technology on people. Yes some of the graffiti was a bit anachronistic. As for political messages I failed to see a sufficient parallel between the movie and our current situation. It might just be me not understanding the UK mindset.

I like to think that at the end the protagonist, Theo Faron, does not die but instead faints due blood loss after getting shot.

I also like the ending with the boat in the water surrounded by fog and not continuing an explanation of the HP people.

I've seen it twice and loved it both times. Highly recommended, especially if you are a fan of dystopian films.

I got beyond the obvious political messages (which are a bit tiring to me) to enjoy the more subtle ones. Also, the movie-making is exceptionally well-done, particularly the use of hand cameras and the long take.

I liked it. It made me feel smug that I got some parts that others I spoke to didn;t ;)

I was eagerly awaiting its release here in the US and watched the trailer over and over getting hyped up for it. Overall I left a bit dissappointed. Subtlety is not in this movies vocabulary. OK, I get it... man is ruining te earth. Governments are taking drastic measures. Basic human rights are being trampled. Now, please stop beating me over the head with it and tell me the story already.

It had a fabulous chance to be a great, even classic movie, but in the end I found myself getting a tad bit bored and wondering when it would be over. Overall I would say it was "OK", but not on my recommendation list.

Oh yeah. One more thing. Does anyone know if those of us in the states got a different cut than our european friends? I know that often happens (for some stupid reason), when the studios feel like the content or length or whatever wont be as well received in one country versus another.

So anyway... exact same film, or changed in some way?

According to IMDB it is the exact same film. If there are different cuts of films they usually do a good job of having all of the running times from various countries. Like this example, from Terry Gilliam's Brazil

IMDB said:
Runtime: 131 min / Spain:136 min (DVD edition) / USA:142 min (director's cut) / USA:94 min (edited version)

Awesome movie. I had high expectations for it originally, and it met them. Always nice. :)

The end was a little abrupt, but the cinematography was unbelievable, and some of the uncut tracking shots were amazing.

I saw it last week (Thursday?) and thoroughly enjoyed it. One of the minor details that was nice was that Theo kept randomly hurting his feet.

I'm glad everyone's seeing and enjoying the film. I had a feeling this would happen to the thread as soon as it got a US release. I highly recommend watching it on the big screen, as it does the film far more justice than on a tv set... (as I discovered this week)
