Chimani, a developer of Apps to five National Parks, is making them free for National Parks Week. The Apps are usually $4.99 and are rated 4+ stars.

Once installed, the Apps are entirely self contained and no not need to access your data plan (altho they can use the GPS)

The description of the Grand Canyon App:

"The Chimani Grand Canyon app includes over 250 unique points of interest (POIs), a 45+ minute auto/audio tour,
high resolution, GPS-enabled maps, regularly updated ranger-led events, 35 hiking trail descriptions, bicycling guide, restroom locations,
over a year's worth of sunrise and sunset times, a free shuttle bus schedule and over 150+ photographs."

    The 5 Apps cover

    Grand Canyon National Park
    Yosemite National Park
    Acadia National Park
    Cape Cod National Seashore
    Cuyahoga Valley National Park
