Not only you.... We're all happy that Apple is successful as we enjoy our Apple products. But...it would be nice if more workers here in the US could benefit from our purchases.

If they agree to work with the same wages and conditions as workers in China, I'm sure it will happen.

Separate?

I am not big on how manufacturing works. Does Apple have separate manufacturing of iPhones for each country? Or do they just make a certain number of devices for that country for that shipment period?

Not separate manufacturing, but there are some different details. Like the language on the box.

The cost is kept down so Apple can stash away more cash.

Don't you keep up with the news about Apple making almost double the profit margin of all other phone makers?

Although this is true, the information is misleading to the extent that other phone makers have product lines covering from the most basic "dumbphone" handsets with very little margin and the highest tech smartphones that are in the iPhone's league. In the latter segment, all the phone makers have comparable profit margins.

Since Apple is a publicly traded company, that money belongs to the shareholders, not some rich guy spending pointless dollars on gold plated toilet seats.

My basic point was crying about how all the benefits of Apple's profits going to China is just silly. Apple supports a bunch of very low-wage jobs in China that we really, long term, don't want. It supports a lot of innovative high tech jobs in the US, and anyone who is willing to take a risk and invest in the company can share the ups (and downs).

What, 100,000 phones wasn't enough for a country of 1.3 BILLION people? Who'da thunk it?

(Yeah, I know they had trouble selling before. Still...)

Just think how many they would have sold if they'd had it in white. :p

Speaking of white, I'm still waiting.....

It would be nice, however those that pray at the church of AAPL might not like that idea.
Apple Products used to be labeled "Made in California," and those of us who belonged to the temple back then loved the idea.

Then the company came close to dying. Because they couldn't compete with all the computers made in China. If the rest of the U.S. had been as proud of Apple's commitment to making products in the U.S. and bought those computers rather than ones made in China because they were so much cheaper, Apple would still be making their products in the U.S.

So, please, don't blame Apple or those long faithful to the cult. We were devoted to the company when the prices where much higher tand products were made here. We liked it fine. But everyone else was buying Dells and Gateways made in China. It wasn't the faithful that drove Apple manufacturing out of the country. It was the fact that the company would have gone extinct if it hadn't become more competitive in price and, unfortunately, that meant moving such manufacturing to China.
