Chopping movies iTunes.

I have my movies on an external HD that are then put into iTunes, I don't have iTunes copy the files into the iTunes media folders.

The problem is my movies are playing really choppy in iTunes, does anyone know why? My external HD is USB 3.

If you copy one to the iTunes folder does it play normally? If so then probably something with the external HD, if not then something more generic with the computer.

Assuming you're playing on the computer, not streaming to ATV. But the troubleshooting is the same - pretty much as important as what's not working, need to know what IS working (when I do X, then it's fine - when I do Y, it doesn't) to narrow down what's causing the problem.
