Christmas Light Picture Issue iPhone 5S

Anyone else having problems taking pictures in front of Christmas trees in medium to low-light conditions where the iPhone 5S is having trouble focusing? I've never had it this bad before with any previous iPhones....very frustrating.

My phone can't focus for crap. Thinking about taking it to the apple store.

Same problem here, had to make it focus on something other than the tree.

Normal lighting here.

Same problem here! Went to a concert yesterday and one of the band's lighting setup was made only of candles (kinda like a christmas tree from a distance). From the distance, with any other iphone this scene would have been easily focusable, but it was absolutely impossible to focus the 5S. It was almost as if it was not responding at all.

Other bands had more traditionnal lighting and there were no problems.

Thanks for all the responses...glad to know I'm not the only one! Hopefully Apple can get some fix out before Christmas or I might have to go buy a regular digital camera....the horror 😱

Before that, have you folks tried other camera apps besides the built-in?

Any samples? (blur/block out your faces in need be). Also, have you tried other cameras on the same scene?

I would like to see a sample also. What is the ambient lighting like? I tried this with dark ambient lighting and the tree focused OK. Definitely doesn't look like an 8 Mega Pixel photo. More like 3

Sounds like you're confusing resolution and image quality.

You're right, I am. Regardless, the pictures look like garbage.
