I think the redesign is fantastic. The New York Times app made similar changes, moving controls to the bottom of the screen, which also improved the experience.

But perhaps Apple could give users the option of going with the new design or the old for those who don't want to change.
Yes. I like the new design, but it would be good to have choice.

This is the most annoying part. Apple expects the Internet to redesign for them.
If you have followed Apple over the last few years, you shouldn’t be surprised. They succeed in getting everyone to change most of the time.

Google, like most web companies, tests these changes on uses and their clicks, mouse movements, millions of times. They don’t take survey’s they just watch user behavior. They learned the feature didn’t work. That kind of real time feed back (A/B) web experiments is invaluable. So that data vs Apples design my guess is Google was correct.

The current safari (and other browser) use far too much screen area on top, so that I only browse in max'ed windows (hiding all the menu/address/favorite/tabs) to get reasonable viewing experience on my 13" machine.

If they move it to the bottom, I hope we can hide it too.

With Firefox you view Bookmarks on the side. Plus use a keyboard shortcut to hide/show the sidebar. This'll let you get rid of the bookmarks bar.

There's also extensions for a tabs sidebar. From a basic list of tabs to a tree style layout of tabs. Then there's methods to modify Firefox to keep the top tabs bar collapsed.

I haven't yet found a way to put the navigation toolbar on the side. At least you can clear some of that other stuff to the side and maximize vertical real estate. That's the great thing about Firefox. How open it is to customization.

Hate the Safari on iOS 15 on my phone. that floating bar at the bottom is horrendous
What!?!? Haha. That's crazy!!
Who decided that was a good idea?
Do they want everybody to change browsers?
Surely it's going to be changed before the new phones are released.

Oh. Now that I think about it. You'll have the notch at the top causing trouble and the floating address bar at the bottom causing trouble... Double Trouble! Absolute Jokers.

I dont "hate" it but there are quite a few design issues.

You now have 2 swipe areas within 1/4 inch. The home bar and this switch tabs swipe. It often does the opposite of what you are trying to do.

And if you don't use that then you are back to the clunky tab interface where content is at top (especially with a few tabs open those are on the top row) defeating the purpose of the redesign to make everything reachable. The old side-by-side tab card interface was MUCH better if the purpose was reaching stuff on the screen.

Some elements at the bottom of a page are unclickable because the address bar now pops up over them when tapping. Because it now hovers over the content rather than separated at the top.

A website footer link? Good luck!

It's not that I "love" or "hate" it either way, different yes, but there are function issues with it being down there IMO that hurt usability a lot. I can certainly see why Google chose not to.

There was nothing wrong with the old layout. Another Apple changing things for the sake of change and not actually solving a problem; or introducing problems that didn't need to be there.

I'm torn with the current design. I like that the bar on the bottom is more one hand friendly, however, devices these days are not meant for one handed use. Also miss easy access to refresh and history. The floating bar also negatively affects reachability.

Times change. Heck, they said the same thing about the gui vs command line years ago. what is too forward years ago might work now, because more people have more experience.

Yes. I’m sure someone would have reported it.

Let’s wait to see what updates they make before the final release. There have already been some.

Makes sense. Apple innovates on hardware (sometimes), but software they are usually far behind google and Facebook in terms of design and functionality.

Never mind swipe down to refresh. If on forums not good either if you wanna refresh to check for new posts

Its ironic coming from a company that is supposed to make technology as accessible as possible to the none-techy , they even used to have 1 button mouse just so not to confuse the user with 2 button mouse.
