chrome + keystone = slow mac?

found an interesting post on reddit about chrome using a program called keystone that apparently hides itself from activity monitor that slows your computer whether or not chrome is in use.

i am, in no way advocating for anything prescribed in that post
yes, i know it was flagged as (misleading, no proof) but lack of proof does not mean it isnt true

i am just interested if anyone came across this phenomena and had any insights in to this

I just noticed today that windowserver consume ~40-50% GPU while I was only playing DVD with VLC. ☹️

WindowServer manages everything you see in macOS: The desktop, windows, the menu bar, all of it.

When an application wants to display something to the screen, WindowServer is involved.

Google have been doing this for many years. One of the reasons I avoid installing their applications (used to manually disable keystone for a while, but it’s easier this way)

The case seems sound about Keystone. When I went and did a full uninstall (you need to go and delete all the other folders and files to get it all) the speed and battery changes were both immediate and drastically for the better.

Uninstalling chrome as instructed here made my computer dramatically faster, and it has stayed that way for weeks since.

Chrome is Bad
