MP 7,1 Chromium (virus?)

I have a 2019 Mac pro running Ventura. This evening I started to get an app by the name of Chromium (not chrome) load itself up and display a blank square on my screen. If I close it down it just comes back after a few minutes. I don't have an app called Chromium, just Google Chrome.

A search on my machine finds no files or apps named Chromium and my virus software tells me there is no issue with my machine.

Can anyone help with this?

When it's running, right-click on its Dock icon. Choose 'Options' -> Show in Finder.

That will reveal the app in a Finder window. The file path might give clues, and there may be documentation in its folder. Especially if it's a legit app.

There is an open-source browser called "Chromium" by Google. It's most of the Chrome codebase, with a few proprietary components left out. Hopefully, that's all it is. Though you'll need to track down what's launching it. Check your Login items, or LaunchAgents, etc.
