I keep a couple of these in both vehicles:

It has a 5VDC, 1A output and will charge/ run just about any USB gadget including our iPhone 5s.
They are cheap, but have held up well to a lot of use & the output is surprisingly consistent.

I got this Scosche model. One of the few I found that puts out over 2amps. If you look around you can find it cheaper that the Scosche web site.
This charger by scosche caught my eye.

Is scosche a reputable brand? I have never heard of this brand.

Yes. They have been around a while making different adpaptors.
No. That just means the device is capable of supplying 2A, not that it will push out 2A into a 1A device.
Correct.
Charging current is never "pushed".... it is always "pulled" by the device being charged and if designed properly, the device will never pull more than it's capable of.
