Hi Guys
Got an old Cinema Display 30" (A1083) hooked up with my Lenovo G505, using a DVI to HDMI adapter (StarTechCom) working fine. Purchased a new Mac Mini 2018 (Intel) and the monitor is black, nothing visual. It's on 'cause the power led is lit. Got an adapter HDMI to USB-C (hooked up the two adapters) with the same problem.
Questions:
1) Is there the new HDMI version on the Mac Mini causing the problem?
2) Should I buy a new monitor and throw away my Cinema Display?
Please help me!
Much obliged! ;)

HDMI adapters are limited to 1280x800 (single-link DVI limit of Apple Cinema Display 30 inch).

For 1280x800 to work, use SwitchResX. Look for a timing that looks like this:

If the screen is black, connect another display to see what you're doing, or use screen sharing with another Mac.

Why don't you get a dual-link DVI adapter to get 2560x1600? The Club-3d CAC-1510 is an example of a USB-C to dual-link DVI adapter that you can use with your Mac mini. These adapters might have onscreen static issues in black areas so maybe stay away from dark mode.

Maybe the best adapter (without onscreen static) is the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual Link DVI adapter but maybe there's some other adapters that don't have static.

Thanks JoeVT! I've connected a LG that works fine! The problem is the adapter, I guees. Got the "Club 3D CAC-1510-A" from Amazon and, as you said, have the onscreen statit in black areas (resolution 2560x1600). The Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual Link DVI adapter is expansive and the monitor is old, it doesn't worth a lot of money. Maybe I should get the Club 3D again (I returned the one I bought) and put up with the static.
BTW: the SwitchResX installation came up with an error:

You do not have permission to open the application “SwitchResX Installer.app”

Appreciated your help!
Cheers

Did you right click it in the Finder and select "Open"? Are you an Admin user?
