cinema display has yellow lines and blue dots

My cinema display suddenly started showing yellow lines all over and weird little blue dots. I dont think its the display because it shows up in screen grabs.

I have a Radeon 9800 pro in a G5 tower. Its an old setup so Im afraid it may just be dying on me.

Any ideas whats wrong?

Looks like your graphics card is artifacting. Due to overheating/old age possibly...

Right, sounds like the graphics card failing.

Well a new graphics card would still be cheaper than a new display. Im going to try switching it out.

I found a Radeon 9600 and switched it out with that. And that fixed the problem.

But when I took the malfunctioning Radeon 9800 out I found the fan on it was literally caked in place with dust. So now Im wondering if its possible to clean it out and put in back?

Yeah, that can done. Just get a can of air or something and blast it. Just make sure the fan is working properly before you do anything graphics intensive.
