Clamshell info/question - WTB

ok- i've got a 300mhz blueberry clamshell

i've already added max ram & a much larger HD-
my question is
how 'good' did the clamshells get?

if, for example, i wanted to get on E-bay and buy a faster processor, DVD, CDR...etc clamshell what should i look for?

graphite?
graphite SE? etc-

i will eventually, w/in 2 weeks, want to buy a new clamshell-
prolly pop my extra ram into the new machine- same w/ my HD
(just to keep it easy)

i have no prbm taking these things apart-
i just don't remember which was the 'top of the line @ the end of the day' clamshell-

any ideas?

If you are gonna buy a new clamshell one... do yourself a HUGE favor and get a dual USB iBook. Or look at the refurbs in the Apple Store.

And I think they went up to a 466mhz G3.

If you're determined to get a Clamshell, one look at www.apple-history.com and that will tell you how fast they got up to. and two don't spend more than $75 or $50 even. You might as well look for a good Lombard G3 if you can, the bronze keyboard. Those are sweet machines.

thanks for the pointers-
yes- i realize the drawbacks of the clamshell
it is for durability that we want this for my HS brother
who loves tossing it around...etc

i agree Dual USB machines are better & lombards (etc) are faster

however- he wants to plug and play w/ the clamshell covers...etc- and create a work of art using the shells-
etc-
