it looks to be a "simplifying" thing, where Apple is dumbing down the OS for stupid people.

Open lid = monitor on
Closed lid = monitor off

They might be onto something when people cannot type a simple command into the terminal. :D

This worked for me until I restarted. Are other folks seeing this work consistently?

the resetting of nvram then sudo didn't work for me in 10.82
lack of clamshell is annoying.

time for a magnet.

Let me know if the magnet method works for you. I wasn't able to get my external monitor to wake up.

I have an early 2010 MBP 13" and found that I wanted the clamshell open so I could get better wifi reception (old brick home). ML meant that I had to have both internal and external screens running, and I didn't want that. I tried the above mentioned sudo command and it didn't work.

But the magnet did! I placed the magnet about an inch down from the function key, just on the left edge of the MBP base. Works like a charm. I had the laptop running in dual screen mode at the time, and just placing the magnet there turned the internal display off and made the external the primary display.

Hope that helps.

EDIT: But then I opened an MKV file and the internal display woke up and took over as primary. Not happy.
