Clamshell mode self-disabling after seconds on 2011 MBP

Up until tonight I was able to use my MBP in clamshell mode with no problems. I plug in my Moshi MDP to HDMI adapter, put my MBP to sleep and wake it up with my magic mouse. This still works... For one second max, until suddenly I get a no input error. I am ale to replicate this on multiple TVs/monitors.

I can only think that it is the Moshi at fault... Except that it still works when using the external monitor as an extension to the desktop.

No, I haven't upgraded yet. Waiting for an SSD and Optibay first. :/

i had this exact problem a few days ago, thought my mbp was broken, then i realized i wasn't plugged into power 😉
