Having also owned both, I prefer the new one. The old one always felt "flimsy" to me and not worth the money I paid for it.

Well, with feedbacks like this looks like I might get the new design after all

I now have both the black and brown, the black is the old style and the brown is the new style. The new style is definitely beefier than the old style, but I like them both equally.

Basically as there is no stitching down the sides they are prone to seperation. I prefer the mk1 design I'm just avoiding getting it wet now and have put leather protector on it also.

Have you actually seen it in person? While the brown lining might look quite distracting when off the wrist, the new band with the stitching is actually more elegant than the old one with the quite pronounced artificial grains on the embossed/pebbled leather (vs. the more natural looking grains on, say, the Hermes bands).

The new band does not have stitching on the sides. It has an embossed channel down each side of the band designed to look like stitching, but no actual stitches. Two Apple employees and I examined the new band and compared it to the edition bands (which do have stitching), and all three of us verified that there is no actual stitching on the new classic band.

IMO the new classic band looks good from a distance (even from the distance most folks will view it from - a foot or so away from it), but up close, and especially when next to high quality band like the one on the edition, it looks like a cheap knock-off. If you have the original, IMO it's definitely not worth paying another $150 for the new one.

None of the stores around me have the classic buckle. Are all you guys having to order it? Or do your stores stock it?

That's good to know. Glad I managed to get the original during the exchange process.

Glad to know people love the new style.

FWIW the new Edition buckles do have stitching, and it looks terrific.

Totally prefer version 1. It was the one I got in April because the brown modern buckle was unavailable. But I love the black classic. I have since gotten the modern buckle and wear it mostly but when the new Brown classic came out got it because the tan is what I usually wear on my mechanical watches. Do not lie the texture. Way too stiff. Continue to use modern buckle.

Very interesting. I hadn't caught that. I guess it's another one of the unique features that separate the Edition from the SS models, including color-coded crowns, magnetic charging boxes, and yellow or rose gold-colored watch faces.
