Well my classic has been broken since 10.4 and remains broken in 10.4.1

I've reinstalled it off the disks that came with my iBook, reinstalled all the updates for it, tried trashing the plist files, tried turning off extensions - Nothing.

There are a number of people with classic issues at the apple discussion boards, so I think there is an issue or 2 in Tiger...

Maybe 10.4.2 will fix it?

Glad it's widespread... Well, not glad, but you know what I mean.

I hope the folks at Apple are working on this, and maybe 10.4.2 helps to fix it.

Bump!

*I* am living fine without it (my mother isn't though - she keeps on telling me how much she hates the "little" iMac - that would be the G3 - for the classic apps she needs), but I figure this topic should get some attention so we can figure out why this is happening.

Here's an update. I found this over at the official Apple forum:

...I had the same exact problem. It turned out to be the QuickTime codec DivX. Removing that will let Classic run (plus fix some other display bugs it Tiger)...

A little more info:

...All I did was to put a space in the name of the folder in the /Library/Application Support/DivXNetworks/ so it now looks like this 'DivX Networks'...

I was all excited for a bit, but then found I don't have this file anywhere on my computer.

Hey. I tried that thing with the space in the DivXNetworks folder. It actually worked!!! :D I don't understand how something so trivial as that could fix this monumental problem i've been having, but hey, I cant complain. Just wanted to let everyone know i've had success with this method.

Don't know why you dont have that folder Plymouth, unless you havent installed the Quicktime DivX codec. I found the folder with a spotlight search. It was in Library/Application Support. Good luck to ya

OS 9 never worked on my Powerbook that I bought over a month ago. I did a search and can't fine this DivXNetwork folder anywhere on my hard drive. It's not critical, just annoying that a new computer can't run Classic. The only Classic program I have left is the Playstation 1 emulator.
