I would like to suggest a feature that I believe would fit perfectly with the identity of the iPhone:

“Classic iPhone Camera Styles.”

Many users greatly appreciate the technical quality of modern iPhone cameras. At the same time, there is a growing group of people who perceive older iPhone photos as more natural, emotional, or visually pleasing — especially images from the iPhone 4, 5s, 6s, or X era.

This is not about modern cameras being “worse.” It is about image character.

Older iPhones often had:

  • more natural contrast,
  • less aggressive HDR processing,
  • softer detail rendering,
  • warmer color reproduction,
  • more pleasing perspectives,
  • and overall a more authentic photographic look.

In contrast, many modern smartphone photos now appear heavily processed:

  • oversharpened,
  • too HDR-heavy,
  • overly smooth,
  • or algorithmic.

That is why it would be wonderful if Apple offered optional rendering styles inspired by earlier iPhone generations.

For example:

  • “Classic 6s”
  • “iPhone X Tone”
  • “2015 Color Science”
  • “Natural Documentary”
  • “Authentic Capture”

Importantly, the current default look would not need to be replaced. This would simply provide more creative choice.

I do not believe users would see this as an admission that older cameras were better. On the contrary:
It would demonstrate that Apple understands photography is not only about technical perfection, but also about atmosphere, character, and personal taste.

Other camera brands have already shown how successful different image aesthetics can be through film simulations and alternative color sciences.

Apple has a unique opportunity here:
Only Apple owns the visual history of the iPhone itself.

Such a feature could:

  • inspire creative users,
  • strengthen the emotional connection to iPhone photography,
  • and position Apple once again as a culturally leading camera brand.
What do you think about it?
